About the Press

Raven's Raft produces hand-built, limited edition artist's books and folios. Using state of the art digital output, the press combines archival, carbon ink jet printing with the time-honored practice of traditional bookbinding. Our goal is to produce art objects that are rich in content, exquisite in design, aesthetically engaging in complexity.

While there are many fine publishers offering trade edition, offset press products, these all provide reproductions of original artwork. What distinguishes Raven's Raft is our commitment to the book as an original work of art. Each project is understood as the artwork itself, hand-built, numbered and signed by the artist.

The press produces up to four projects a year, and at this time, artist's proposals are accepted by invitation only. As the press grows, we hope to be able to offer a larger scope of publishing opportunities for both mid career and emerging artists.

Serendipity can manifest itself amidst the uncertain turbulence of creation, whether it is in the form of a raft, a raven, or the auspicious intersection of each to the other. Raven's Raft believes that the enigmatic, mysterious, and ineffable nature of Beauty can serve as a guide for human creative vision. It is with this hope that we search for the juxtaposition of unforeseen and riveting connections between the cosmos and the human experience, allowing us to contemplate the universe: the universe contemplating itself.
